“A Beautiful Symphony of Brotherhood”: The Music and Life of Martin Luther King, Jr.
An hour of music and storytelling I can’t recommend enough.
I listened to an amazing program on WQXR this Monday night, “A Beautiful Symphony of Brotherhood: A Musical Journey into the Life of Martin Luther King, Jr.”.
I’ve heard it before, but every time I listen to it I get chills and stand transfixed in the room. The host, Terrance McKnight, uses music from Dr. King’s life, starting with choir songs he sang as a boy, to the opera he listened to on the radio as he drove through long stretches of the South, organizing for change, plus recordings of Mahalia Jackson and Bob Dylan (among many others) at speeches and rallies.
It’s an incredible hour, so full of love and inspiration. I recommend it for one of these winter evenings soon. Listen to the program here.
The In-Between is on family leave for a week or two as we deal with school-related quarantines. Everyone’s healthy here, thankfully.
With gratitude,
Dan
